The Newman Club of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tuskegee will be collecting women's clothing, children's clothing, baby essentials, and in-date non-perishable food items for "Storks Nest," a non-profit supporting pregnant women and new moms.
Storks Nest currently serves 20 women; some have lost everything to a fire, some have managed to get a job that pays just enough for them not to qualify for food stamps and thus now they can afford rent but not food, etc. These are also often not first-time moms, and thus need clothes for children of different ages.
The Newman Club will be gathering donations of clothes for women and children and non-perishable food, that is away from the expiration date, and essentials for babies and pregnant women. The clothes must be clean and in appropriate condition- as you would give to a person who God loves really much.
Lent is an especially adequate time to help feed the hungry, give water to the thirsty, clothe the naked, and help by doing this these people become better able to afford having shelter. More importantly, we let these women know that they are not alone, and allows them to experience the charity of the Gospel.
Donations can be dropped off in the kitchen hallway until Easter.
