On Feb, the Gospel focuses on Jesus being presented to Simeon at the temple. Simeon recognizes in this ordinary-looking baby the Son of God, and as he takes him in his arms, he utters the canticle prayed during Night Prayer by millions of faithful throughout the world. In this canticle, we see the origins of the other name for this feast: Candlemas. On February 2, all of the candles to be used in the church for the coming year are blessed, and here at St. Michael, the faithful are invited to bring their own candles so that they can be blessed and used in the home for prayer throughout the year.
