The Advent season is a time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to Christ’s second coming at the end of time and to the anniversary of Our Lord’s birth on Christmas. Our Advent readings call us to be alert and ready, not weighted down and distracted by the cares of this world (Lk 21:34-36). Advent also includes an element of penance in the sense of preparing, quieting, and disciplining our hearts for the full joy of Christmas.

This 40 Hour Devotion will begin with the Parish Penance Service and end with a Mass before the Advent Reflection with Fr. John McDonald of the Diocese of Birmingham. In addition to preparing ourselves for Christ's coming, we will pray for the renewal of parish life, a return for all to active parish life, and for all of us to recommit our belief that the Eucharist is the true presence of Christ, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity.
Guardians are needed each hour from Dec 14 at 6 PM until Dec 16 at 6 PM; special devotions that will occur during specific hours are noted. Masses will continue as regularly scheduled, at which time the Eucharist will be reposed and then exposed again after Mass.
Note: if you are signing up as a family with multiple members, please only take one slot.
